Well - here we are. This, in all likelihood, will be the final update from Mirage via this domain name as it looks like Nickelodeon will be taking over next week. With that in mind, I've posted the skeleton of the new Mirage Group web site over at www.miragelicensing.com - so if you wanna keep track of what we're up to (we're still publishing TMNT comics at least until May, 2010) - please check it out and set those bookmarks.

There's some totally awesome news regarding the animated "Turtles Forever" film - check it out here!

We had to cancel the "Mirage Universe" book due to stipulations in the buyout deal, so John over at PanelToPAnel.net is now offering the bookplate from that project (done by yours truly) along with the full color reprint of Eastman and Laird's TMNT #1 that's shipping later this month. You can order it here.

The latest press release regarding the future of the TMNT toy line:

PLAYMATES CONTINUES AS TMNT TOY MASTER

Playmates Toys will continue as global master toy licensee for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles under the property’s new controller, Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products, the toymaker said today. The long-term partnership allows Playmates Toys to continue its 20-year history with the Turtles brand. The alliance also lets Playmates “execute on its strategy to maximize global toy rights in partnership with renowned brands that leverage entertainment across multiple-media platforms worldwide,” the company said. "We are very excited about our new partnership with Nickelodeon, which broadens the scope of creative inspiration for Playmates," said Lou Novak, President, Playmates Toys. “We are proud to continue our long-standing commitment of making innovative, fun toys based on the beloved Turtles that have entertained generations of kids around the world."

Nickelodeon purchased the merchandising rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earlier this month from licensor 4Kids Entertainment.

Teenage Wasteland recently conducted an interview with "Tales of the TMNT" writer Tristan Jones - WARNING - foul language is present - you can check it out here.

And that appears to be a wrap. If you want to stay in contact with us, it's probably a good idea to start writing to the e-mail listed over at miragelicensing.com as I don't know exactly when our ninjaturtles.com addresses will disappear. Thanks again for the years of support - it's been a dream. See you over at miragelicensing.com

Cheers!
Dan Berger

Howdy folks,

If you haven't heard the news, Peter Laird has sold all intellectual property rights to the TMNT franchise to Nickelodeon. So Nick now owns the TMNT lock, stock and barrel. Of note, Peter did retain the right to publish up to 18 TMNT comics per year should he choose to do so - thus Mirage Publishing will remain in business at least until May, 2010.

Check out the press release from Viacom (they own Nick and numerous other entertainment companies) here.

Check out Peter Laird's comments about the deal here.

At some point, Nick will assume control of the ninjaturtles.com domain name and Mirage will no longer be involved. Let me say it's been an honor and pleasure talking with all of you over the years and I'll miss this job more than I can say - but all good things come to an end and when doors close, doors open...

Speaking of which, I will be creating a new Mirage Studios web site for us to continue posting news and info about our comics. This site will be up and running soon and hopefully there will be a link here before any major changes take place.

I'm tempted to say "So long, and thanks for all the fish" - but we'll still be here for a bit and we'll definitely be around at the new Mirage site once it's established. So please keep checking back here to find the new Mirage Studios URL over the next few weeks - and have an awesome weekend.

Cheers!
- Dan
